Cortland Lowerison was born in Los Angeles, California in 1954. Inspired by Picasso’s Blue period paintings, and encouraged by several members of his family he started to explore the possibilities of paint at an early age. In 1974 Cortland moved to New York City where he spent seven years exploring a variety of expressive artistic mediums, and developing his ideas concerning a personal aesthetic. In 1981 Cortland moved to France. Cortland’s first personal exhibition was at the Katia Granoff Gallery in Paris in 1985. In 2010 Cortland began working with clay. In 2013 he was awarded 1st Prize at the Vasefinder International by Phil Rogers the British potter, and ceramic artist who was the juror for the event (text by Cortland).
