Janet Leach-Darnell is born in Texas (USA) in 1918. In 1938 she goes to New York and enrols in sculpture classes. Between 1939 and 1945 she works as welder on war ships on Staten Island. In 1947 her interest in pottery begins. In 1948 she sets up her own pottery studio in Steiner community at Spring Valley. In 1949 she leaves new York and starts her own pottery. I 1952 she meets Hamada and bernard Leach on their tour in USA. In 1954 she travels to Japan, she works here at Mashiko and Tamba. She travels with bernard Leach during his Japanese visit. In 1956 she comes to St. Ives to marry as his third wife Bernard Leach (text: Oliver Watson).
