Work of the artist:

Maria Bofill considers her pieces to be 'small Mediterranean architectonic objects'. The former functional use of her works is disappearing. She loves natural living forms, seemingly in motion. Slender stems of goblets rise upward like columns with capitals, or like twisted flower stalks. The walls of more recent wider objects with round bottoms, rise spirally, like towers, or move concentrically. She often starts working with an idea of the shape in mind, which, in the creative process, will undergo modifications. She uses the wheel but also slabs. Her pieces are reduction-fired in a gas kiln at 1280 gr C. Slip decorations are then fired in an electric kiln between 1150 and 1200 gr C. Gold and silver are fired at 730 gr. C.(text Mieke Spruit-Ledeboer, 1996).
