Anne Bulliot, a sculpted container, lava vs. burnish

The piece we are offering here can be considered as a masterpiece within the production of the artist. The heavy weight 'cracked' container shows a rough 'lava look" side and a shiny polished side in a soft dark red. This container was bought by the first owners in Galerie Loes & Reinier at Deventer (NL).

About

Anne Bulliot (1961) did her study at the Academy of Applied Arts at Strassburg (FR), from which she graduated in 1985. In 1986 she established her own studio at Strassburg. Her sculptures are reminiscent of what they undergo in the process of their making. The rough and natural clay of her objects make them look as if they were made of pieces of solidified lava and then exposed to the creative and shaping will of the artist. Bulliot's works combine strong and exiting contraries whose effects are enhanced by subtle, irregular shadows which the smoking fire left on the surfaces of the clay, as well as by softly shining spots produced by burnishing. Text is taken from Galerie Heller with our thanks.
