Anne Bulliot is born in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin) on December 8, 1961. Between 1980 and 1985 she did her study at the Academy of Applied Arts (École des Arts décoratifs de Strasbourg) at Strassburg (FR), from which she graduated in 1985. She did stages with Claude Varlan, Brigitte Pénicaud and Jaean-Vicolas Gérard. In 1986 she established her own studio at Strassburg. Her sculptures are reminiscent of what they undergo in the process of their making. The rough and natural clay of her objects make them look as if they were made of pieces of solidified lava and then exposed to the creative and shaping will of the artist. Bulliot's works combine strong and exiting contraries whose effects are enhanced by subtle, irregular shadows which the smoking fire left on the surfaces of the clay, as well as by softly shining spots produced by burnishing (source: text is taken from Galerie Heller with our thanks).
